New Snowpiercer images give fans a first look at Sean Bean's Mr. Wilford. The TNT show is based on Bong Joon-ho's 2013 film and the 1982 graphic novel Le Transperceneige, although it's taken certain creative liberties of its own. The series follows a group of survivors aboard the massive Snowpiercer train, seven years after the world has completely frozen over.
Bean will join the Snowpiercer season 2 cast as Mr. Wilford, the billionaire who oversaw the construction and development of Snowpiercer. While Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) had posed as Wilford for years, Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) uncovers the truth and ousts her. Although it seems that Andre is poised to implement class equality and build a representative government, the end of season 1 brings yet another twist. Instead of a peaceful implementation of Andre's vision, a second train named Big Alice arrives and docks with Snowpiercer; controlling Big Alice is none other than the real Mr. Wilford.
EW has revealed new images of Bean's Mr. Wilford. In the first photo, Bean is impeccably dressed in a crisp collared shirt and a red suit. He's sitting in an elegant, gold-rimmed chair and appears to be in mid-conversation with someone. The second image shows Wilford holding several documents and towering over a second character, who appears to be Alexandra Cavill (Rowan Blanchard). You can catch this first look at Bean's Wilford below:
Wilford's arrival will certainly shake things up, to say the least. For one, his very existence is an enormous threat to Melanie; considering she not only impersonated Wilford but left him for dead seven years prior, Wilford will likely seek some type of revenge. Moreover, Wilford's band of loyalists, including Ruth Wardell (Alison Wright), will certainly stand behind whatever the billionaire decides to do next, especially regarding Andre's push for equality. Yet, at the same time, Wilford's arrival with Big Alice means he almost certainly has a stash of supplies, which are desperately needed by Snowpiercer inhabitants. While it's not completely clear if Wilford will be a force for good or evil, his presence will most definitely be a game-changer.
Season 2 of Snowpiercer will undoubtedly be an exciting one, from Wilford's appearance with Alexandra to what seems like inevitable Cavill family drama. That being said, while Bean is an incredible actor, many of the characters he's played in the past have died bloody, violent deaths. As such, while fans have a myriad of questions about season 2 storylines, perhaps the greatest question of all is if Mr. Wilford will survive his time aboard the Great Ark.
