The Mandalorian: Every Lightsaber That Could Appear in Season 2

The Mandalorian season 2 could include many famous lightsabers from Star Wars' past. Here's every one that could appear, including the Darksaber.

Season 1 of The Mandalorian barely featured lightsabers, but some twists for season 2 could change that. For Disney and Lucasfilm's first live-action Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian turned its focus mostly away from the Jedi. The surprise inclusion of Baby Yoda did mean some Force elements were featured, but Jon Favreau's show didn't include any appearances by the Jedi or Sith. With that approach, season one was nearly completed without a single lightsaber being shown.

Lightsabers are one of the Star Wars franchise's defining artifacts, so much so that Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to make a project without featuring at least one. They are featured throughout the sequel trilogy, with multiple characters using them in each film. Even the spinoff films that aren't focused on the Jedi, the Sith, or the Force included them. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story saw Darth Vader use his red lightsaber to lay waste to Rebel soldiers, while Darth Maul needlessly ignited his near the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story. This trend of saving lightsabers for the end continued with The Mandalorian in season one. The season finale included the live-action debut of the Darksaber, which was previously featured on Star Wars animated shows.

Now that The Mandalorian has waded into the lightsaber territory, there are plenty of reasons to believe season 2 will include even more. With rumors of Boba Fett and many other familiar characters appearing, it appears that the show is delving deeper into Star Wars lore and will include even more familiar elements. The Mandalorian takes place just a few years after the original trilogy ended, so several iconic lightsabers could be featured. So, which ones might be in The Mandalorian season 2? Here are some possibilities.

The Darksaber

As mentioned before, the Darksaber already appeared in The Mandalorian season one. With the late reveal that Gideon has the saber, it has been set up to play a prominent role in season two. Esposito has teased that he'll get plenty of use out of the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 2 as well. The actor has promised multiple action sequences involving Gideon and the Darksaber. It would stand to reason that Gideon and the Darksaber will clash with another lightsaber at some point in the new episodes, but it could play a more important role.

The Darksaber is a storied weapon for Mandalorians, as it is supposed to belong to the person in charge of Mandalore. Prior to Gideon having it, Star Wars: The Clone Wars featured the weapon, while Sabine Wren got it during Star Wars: Rebels. However, Sabine did not keep the Darksaber for herself and gave it to Bo-Katan Kryze instead. Both characters are rumored to appear in season 2 and could be tied to the Darksaber. There is even a section of fans who believe Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) will become the next owner.

The Blue Skywalker Lightsaber

The Mandalorian season 2 could also feature the blue lightsaber made famous by the Skywalker family. The lightsaber has had multiple owners over the years after Anakin Skywalker made it. It was in Obi-Wan Kenobi's possession for years after Anakin's turn to the dark side, but he gave it to Luke Skywalker during his Jedi training. Luke famously lost it, though, when Vader cut off his hand on Cloud City. This resulted in the lightsaber tumbling onto Bespin, where a mysterious hooded figure found it. The lightsaber eventually found its way into the possession of Maz Kanata before it called out to Rey. It was later destroyed, repaired, and buried on Tatooine by Rey.

Despite the massive history that the blue Skywalker lightsaber already has, the period of time when The Mandalorian takes place is a big blind spot, but it is presumably during the blind spot the lightsaber ends up in Kanata's hands. This could mean The Mandalorian season 2 will show how Maz came to acquire the lightsaber. It is also possible that the lightsaber will appear briefly while in transit to Maz should Din cross paths with the person in possession of it before her, possibly during his search for Mandalorians.

Ahsoka's White Lightsabers

There is a great possibility that Ahsoka Tano's white lightsabers will appear in The Mandalorian season 2 as well. One of the biggest unconfirmed reports about The Mandalorian season 2 is that Rosario Dawson will play a live-action Ahsoka. If the fan-favorite character does make an appearance, it is difficult to imagine she won't ignite a lightsaber at some point. Ahsoka was last seen chronologically using two white lightsabers at the end of Star Wars: Rebels, and there is no reason to believe that she got rid of them.

Ahsoka has had several different lightsabers during her life, though. She started with a green one as a padawan before acquiring a second shorter "shoto" blade and was later gifted two blue lightsabers by Anakin before the Siege of Mandalore in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7, even though other canon materials said she had green ones at this time. Ahsoka buried these blue lightsabers to fake her own death after these events and came into possession of the white lightsabers a few years later. Ahsoka created the white lightsabers after she purified Kyber crystals of a red Inquisitor saber. They are unique to her and signify that she is neither a Jedi nor Sith. Unless The Mandalorian plans to reveal otherwise, Ahsoka should still have her white lightsabers at this time.

Ezra's Green Lightsaber

The Mandalorian season 2 could also possibly include Ezra Bridger's green lightsaber. Although there is plenty of speculation that Ezra could also make his live-action debut in the new episodes, he isn't necessarily needed for the lightsaber to appear. At the end of Star Wars: Rebels, Ezra gives his green lightsaber to Sabine for safekeeping before his showdown with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ezra and Sabine didn't see each other again after this point, as Ezra and Thrawn traveled to the Unknown Regions.

Just like the rumors of Ezra appearing in The Mandalorian season 2, there is a belief that Sabine will appear. If she does, then she very well could still have Ezra's green lightsaber with her. She was trained to use the Darksaber in the past, so she has some practice with using lightsabers in combat. It is even possible that Sabine gave the lightsaber to Ahsoka after the fact. If Ezra does make an appearance in The Mandalorian season 2, then this could be how his green lightsaber makes a return after all.
