Why Oscar Isaac Is Perfect For Marvel's Moon Knight

Both insanely versatile and with previous franchise and superhero experience of his own, Oscar Isaac is the perfect actor for the role of Moon Knight.

Oscar Isaac is set to portray the titular character in Marvel and Disney+'s upcoming series, Moon Knight, and the actor is perfect casting for the show. Moon Knight is one of several upcoming series slated to hit Disney's streaming platform, with others including WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. These are headed by strong performers who have already made their marks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Isaac would be another strong addition to the already well-cast MCU.

Moon Knight is the heroic alias of Marc Spector, a mercenary turned vigilante crime fighter. Often seen as Marvel's response to Batman, Spector uses his considerable wealth to fund crime fighting technology. However, unlike the Caped Crusader, Spector possesses superhuman powers gifted to him by the moon god Khonshu. He also has dissociative identity disorder, which presents itself in separate personalities, including cabbie Jake Lockley and millionaire Steve Grant.

Despite the similarities, Moon Knight is not simply a rip-off of Batman. He is a multi-faceted character with several personalities and the potential to be a major player in the MCU. The ideal actor for a role like Moon Knight would have to be someone who is comfortable playing all types of roles, as well as someone who is comfortable with carrying a major franchise. Both insanely versatile and with previous franchise and superhero experience of his own, Oscar Isaac is the perfect actor for Moon Knight.

Isaac already has considerable experience as a part of a major franchise. As Resistance pilot Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, he proved that he can easily play a hero in a larger than life setting. His charisma in the Star Wars films further cements him as strong leading man material. In addition to Star Wars, Isaac is familiar with superhero films, as he has played Marvel characters in the past. He played the villain Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse and had a brief cameo in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which will surely play a large part in the film's sequel. Isaac's ability to balance major these franchises has prepared him to take the lead in Moon Knight.

Aside from franchise experience, Isaac has the acting range necessary to make Moon Knight and all his alter egos into compelling, yet distinct, characters. His performances in films like A Most Violent Year and Ex Machina demonstrate his ability to walk the line between dark and brooding yet still undeniably human, which will be key in navigating Moon Knight's quest for vengeance. There is no question that Isaac will take this role seriously and approach it with the intention of making Moon Knight and his multiple personalities as different and grounded as possible.

The record-breaking casting of Isaac as Moon Knight will work not only because Isaac has held his own in major franchises in the past, but also because he is a talented actor who will definitely be able to embody Moon Knight's distinct personalities. As Marvel Studios begins to release series on Disney+, they will have to work hard to establish new heroes to fit into the MCU. Oscar Isaac is well known and will draw viewers to the show and to this new hero. Add that to his acting ability, and it is clear that he is ideal choice to lead Moon Knight.
