Gorgeous new Aquaman 2 fan art proposes that Emilia Clarke could replace Amber Heard as Mera. James Wan's Aquaman made quite the splash upon its 2018 premiere. The film stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, as the hero journeys to the kingdom of Atlantis to stop his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) from waging war on the surface world. A sequel is currently slated a late 2022 release.

Heard plays Mera, a Xebellian princess and fierce ally of Aquaman. However, Heard has recently become mired in controversy. Heard used to be married to actor Johnny Depp. She not only filed for divorce in 2016, but took out a restraining order and accused Depp of both physical and verbal abuse. Yet Depp later alleged that it was actually Heard who was the abuser, and cited multiple instances of domestic violence. Depp subsequently sued Heard for defamation, and went to court against U.K. tabloid The Sun for calling him a "wife beater." When a judge ruled against Depp in The Sun libel case, the actor was asked to resign from Fantastic Beasts 3. Yet the actor has since received an outpouring of online support. More specifically, Depp supporters have started a petition on Change.org, demanding that Heard be fired from Aquaman 2. As of right now, the petition has over 900k signatures.

Clarke is no stranger to the spotlight. She's arguably most well known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO show Game of Thrones. Thanks to Clarke's portrayal, Daenerys quickly transformed into one of Game of Thrones' most beloved characters. While Daenerys' fate was a profound disappointment for many fans, Clarke has proven her emotional range through her time on the show. As such, outside of her busy schedule, Clarke would easily be a frontrunner to play Mera.

Seeing Clarke work with Momoa once again would be icing on top of the cake. Momoa appeared on Game of Thrones as well; he played Daenerys' husband, Khal Drogo, who was killed off in season 1. Regardless, the love story between Daenerys and Khal Drogo is still remembered as one of Game of Thrones' most heartbreaking. That being said, Clarke and Momoa have remained friends since their time on the show. As such, seeing the two stars play yet another power couple in Aquaman 2 would be an incredibly cool way to bring their working relationship full circle.
