Vin Diesel's arrival in Australia has led to speculation about Groot being one of the Guardians of the Galaxy to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Vin Diesel's arrival in Australia has led to speculation that Groot will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth's fourth solo outing as the God of Thunder came as a pleasant surprise to fans when it was announced in mid-2019. Taika Waititi will once again return as director, while Hemsworth will be joined onscreen by those such as Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale. With production slated to begin in January 2021 following months of delays, cast members like Portman and Bale have been spotted flocking to Australia in recent weeks.
Much of Love and Thunder remains a secret, from its plot to possible character returns. As Thor was last seen jetting off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy, many have wondered if the colorful band of misfits will join him in Love and Thunder. For some time, nothing was confirmed, but then news broke mere days ago that Chris Pratt will reprise his Star Lord for the film. It was reported that more Guardians could make appearances, though no one was named beyond Star Lord. Now, though, fans believe they might have figured out one person who could join him.
Per KobieThatcher, Groot actor Diesel has been spotted in Australia. The paparazzo shared a video of Diesel leaving a plane and being ushered onto a charter bus. This is the same source who caught Bale arriving in Australia at the end of October. You can see the Diesel video down below.
This isn't explicit confirmation that Diesel's Groot will appear in Love and Thunder, but his location coupled with the news of Pratt's cameo makes a compelling case that he will. Diesel had seemingly confirmed the Guardians would have a role in Love and Thunder back in March, which further supports the possibility. Again, there is a chance that Diesel is in Australia for an entirely different reason, and until Marvel confirms Groot's presence, fans should prepare themselves for possible disappointment.
Of course, having Groot join Thor in Love and Thunder would make perfect sense. Not only were the two seen together at the end of Avengers: Endgame, they formed a small but sweet friendship in the previous movie, Avengers: Infinity War. Thor is one of the few characters who can understand Groot's tree language, and Groot sacrificed his own arm so Thor's Stormbreaker could be completed. Love and Thunder could easily build upon this dynamic. And, if Groot is really there, it stands to reason that his best friend/father Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper) won't be far behind. Only time will tell which members of the Guardians will board Love and Thunder, but Groot is certainly a likely candidate.
