Career Of Daniel Olukoya

Doctor Daniel Kolawole Olukoya is also known as D.K. Olukoya or DKO. He is a Nigerian Pastor, Author, Televangelist, Scientist, Football lover and founded Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) in 1989.

Biography

Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya (DKO) was born in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria to Mr. Olukoya, a Police officer and Mrs. Olukoya, a trader.

Education

He had his primary school education at St. John’s CAC Primary School, Akure, he was recognized as an exceptionally intelligent child coming tops throughout his stay at the school. Later when his family moved to Lagos, he was enrolled at St. Jude’s Primary school, Ebute metta from which he graduated with excellent results.He had his secondary school education at Methodist Boys’ High School, Lagos, where he graduated with Grade One Distinction and was the best student in his set. It was at this same time that he became born again. In 1976 he gained admission into the prestigious University of Lagos, UNILAG, and graduated in 1980 with a first-class degree in Microbiology, the first and only from the department since the university was established 55 years ago i.e hewas the first person to have achieved a first-class in the course at the university and his G.P.A is still the highest recorded so far in that course.

He then proceeded on a Commonwealth scholarship to the University of Reading, United Kingdom (UK) for his Doctorate degree in molecular genetics which he completed in record time, making him arguably the first Nigerian to obtain a Ph.D. in molecular genetics.

Early life

Upon his return to Nigeria, he was offered a good job at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos where he worked as a senior geneticist. He is said to have written more than 70 scientific papers before establishing the ‘Daniel and Fola Biotechnology Foundation’, a registered NGO, to train Nigerian citizens in molecular biology and biotechnology. Olukoya is believed to be first scientist to establish an indigenous Molecular Biology and Biotechnology laboratory in Nigeria. He was also a lecturer as well as external examiner to a number of Nigerian universities including the University of Lagos, UNILAG and the University of Benin, UNIBEN.

Moreover, he has attended and presented papers at scientific conferences in almost all continents of the world. Even today, DKO continues to contribute to the field of genetics and biotechnology via the Daniel & Fola Biotechnology Foundation, a registered NGO established to empower Nigerian citizens with modern and contemporary laboratory skills in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.

His contribution to biotechnology and health care delivery in Nigeria was best appreciated after the discovery of a new type of Pap (Ogi), named Dogik, a weaning food that has improved nutritional qualities that can control diarrhea. The laboratory also ranks among the first to done genes in the West African nation.

Personal life

He is married to Pastor Folashade Olukoya and blessed with a son, Elijah Toluwani Olukoya.

Ministry

On a Wednesday in 1989, while still working at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, NIMR, he was said to have organized a prayer meeting which held in his living room with over 2 dozens in attendance. After that meeting, he kept calling for subsequent meetings. At these meetings, the power of God came down and verifiable miracles began to happen in the lives of the attendees. People kept coming thus, a larger venue became inevitable, thus the prayer meetings moved to 60 Old Yaba Road, Yaba, Lagos and later to 13 Olasimbo Street, Onike, Yaba , by the second gate of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, the International Headquarters of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM.
