The Umbrella Academy season 3 will begin filming in early 2021, with its newly revealed premiere title hinting at the episode's storyline.

The Umbrella Academy's season 3 premiere title hints at the story to come. The superhero series has been a hit for Netflix since it premiered in 2019. Based on the popular comic book series, it tells the story of the unconventional Hargreeves family. They are a group of adopted superpowered individuals who come together to prevent a worldwide apocalypse. The Umbrella Academy season 1 was set in the present day, after the Hargreeves' adopted father's funeral. However, season 2 sent the team to the 1960s, where they faced a whole new set of challenges.

The Umbrella Academy season 2 released in summer 2020. The finale ended on a cliffhanger, with the group able to return to the present day, but having drastically altered the timeline. When they arrived back in 2019, the heroes saw Ben and their adopted father, Reginald, were still alive. Additionally, Reginald came up with The Sparrow Academy rather than The Umbrella Academy, meaning it was made up of five different people. Due to these shocking reveals, as well as the show's popularity, it makes sense Netflix renewed The Umbrella Academy for season 3 earlier this month. The series is expected to begin filming the new season in Toronto early next year.

Now, creator Steve Backman has given viewers an idea of what to expect when season 3 premieres. Taking to social media this week, he shared the title of season 3 episode 1, "Meet the Family." Blackman's post also revealed he'll co-write the premiere with Michelle Lovretta.

Though it's hard to glean too many story details from the episode's title, it does hint at what's to come. Namely, it suggests a meeting between members of The Umbrella Academy and The Sparrow Academy. This was to be expected, but it's still exciting to imagine what the moment will be like. This is especially true considering the original team will likely want to set the timeline back to its original state. It seems likely interactions between the two academies will be contentious, at least at first.

All told, the premiere episode title should make viewers even more eager to see season 3. Though a release date hasn't been announced at this time, nearly a year and a half passed between seasons 1 and 2. Since the second season came out in July, it could be the end of 2021 before The Umbrella Academy fans see the Hargreeves again. Luckily, judging by the new information about the season 3 premiere title, their return will be worth the wait.
