Why Burna Boy Might Lose Grammy Award Again [A MUST READ]

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu professionally known as Burna Boy has just been nominated for the Best World Music Album category of Grammy awards for the second time in a row, and here is why he might not win it.

The serial hitmaker, Burna Boy who dished out his maiden album "L.I.F.E" in 2013 bagged his second Grammy Award nomination on November 24, 2020. Just before racking up a billion streams on his fourth studio album "African Giant" released last year, Burna Boy was nominated for the Best World Music category at the 62nd Grammys. He was honoured with the nomination by the Recording Academy, the organizers of the award for his creativity and activism.

Months after losing his first Grammy award nomination to Beninese singer, Angelique Kidjo, Burna Boy has now been nominated for the same award category at the 63rd Grammys for his astounding performance on his fifth studio album "Twice as Tall". The Nigerian conscious singer dedicated a couple of songs on the Grammy-nominated album to fight against racism. He linked up with some of his Nigerian music producers and a host of other international artistes to create a pack of captivating tunes created with basic African melodies and instruments.

Despite the buzz around the album and Burna Boy's masterclass performance on of the piece of art, here is why we believe Burna Boy might not claim the award for the second time.

Most times, when our favourites are nominated for awards, our main focus is on him or her. We tend to totally neglect other creatives who were equally nominated for the award. Burna Boy has strong competition in this year's Best World Album category of the Grammys. Burna Boy is battling for this medal with Brooklyn-based afrobeat band, Antibalas, American-Brazilian singer, Bebel Gilberto, Grammy-nominated British-Indian musician, Anoushka Shankar and Malian Grammy award-winning band, Tinariwen.

Burna Boy with two Grammy award nominations is up against seven times Grammy award nominations, Anoushka Shankar and a Grammy award-winning band, Tinariwen. Recall Burna Boy lost his first Grammy award nomination to Angelique Kidjo, a singer with nine Grammy award nominations and a three-time Grammy award winner before that of 2020.

With this in mind, it's clear Burna Boy might fail to in this award again if the judgment is based on pedigree.
