Marvel Confirmed To Release 10 Disney+ Shows In Next Few Years
Disney confirms Marvel Studios will release at least 10 shows on Disney+, including WandaVision and Falcon & Winter Soldier, in the next few years.
Disney will release 10 Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on Disney+ in the next few years. The first decade of the MCU saw content primarily come through theatrically released movies, but that will change with Phase 4. The launch of Disney+ in November 2019 gave Marvel Studios a brand new outlet to produce MCU stories and do so in a new, linear format. This era was slated to begin originally with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in August 2020.
Due to COVID-19, fans are still waiting to see the first MCU Disney+ show, but that will soon change with the launch of WandaVision in January 2021. Marvel might only have two shows completed, but several others are currently in various stages of development. Loki, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel are currently filming, while Moon Knight and She-Hulk are expected to begin early next year. But, these shows count for just a portion of what Marvel Studios will deliver on Disney+ in the coming years.
During Disney's Investor Day 2020, it was revealed that at least 10 Marvel shows will be released on Disney+ in the next few years. If that total includes the animated series What If...? and all the seven live-action shows already announced, that leaves two shows that are currently a mystery. With the Investor Day only just beginning, official announcements on the next two shows - or more - could come soon.
Fans have already known that Disney+ will be a massive part of Phase 4 thanks to Marvel's presentations at conventions in 2019. But, the D23 presentation in the fall was the last time Marvel announced any new shows. Now that it has been more than a year and Marvel Studios is finding its way in making TV shows, the confirmation of more coming is hardly a surprise. With the popularity of the MCU and the success of The Mandalorian, there is no doubt that WandaVision and all of the MCU titles that will follow will be big hits.
As for what the other Disney+ shows will be, there are no shortage of rumors about what they might be. It has been reported that a series involving Samuel L. Jackson's return as Nick Fury is in the works, which gives us nine known MCU shows. The casting of multiple Young Avengers characters has sparked speculation a Young Avengers show could be in the works too. Rumors have also swirled that shows based around Ironheart, Ghost Rider, and others are in the works. So far, none of that has been confirmed by Marvel Studios, but more news could come soon, so stay tuned.
