Michael Uba, popularly known as James in comedy series, Jenifa’s Diary is a multi-talented Nigerian actor, comedian, writer and radio and television presenter. He is also known as Ogbolor in Wazobia FM. He is an all-round entertainer.

James on August 16, his month and year of birth not known. He is of an Igbo decent. He grew up in Lagos where he had his primary and secondary education respectively.

His Career

James career began as a teenager in his local church in Surulere in Lagos. He was the then teenage President and also earned several awards for his abilities. Later, the teenagers formed themselves into youthful comedy group in church, called D’ISAACS.

James became popular all over Surulere churches, cracking ribs. He thereafter made his entry into stand-up comedy performing in several places. He was also a professional dancer at the time. After several years of delay as a dancer with no major headway, he went back fully into comedy.

James also got a role in a popular sitcom called Flatmates where he played the role of an imbecile called Ogbolor amusing friends. He soon took the character to stage and got major love for that as many referred to him as next Klint the Drunk.

Owing to some reasons to re-brand, James had to drop the imbecile character to stick to actual stand-up comedy. Years later, Ayo Makun, fondly known as (AY) saw the rich talents in him and asked him to go into media (Radio/TV) because he felt James had what it takes to also do media alongside comedy.

James approached Wazobia FM and after a long while, was employed to do WAZOBIA TV as presenter doing Night and the Padipadi show.

In an interview with print media, James revealed that Comedians of today have it easier than in the past owing to availability of social media to sell yourself or your craft. But these days with just your Instagram handle, you can crack people up and get paid to host events. “So, it is far easier now compared to when I started” he said.

He also revealed that Comedians are better paid, taken a lot more seriously now unlike back then. In addition, Comedians are getting endorsements too and living the life now. He expresses gratitude to the key players in the comedy business in the likes of Alibaba, Basketmouth, Holy Mallam, Tee A, among others.

James who is a nail-stylist in the Saloon in the highly successful comedy series, Jenifa’s Diary was introduced to Funke Akindele by a friend of his, Obi Martins.

He is a guy with feminine mannerism, always seen chewing a gum and wears a bandanna all the time, very expressive, gossips a lot and is ready for a fight any time. The character has earned him a lot of love from viewers, mostly the ladies.

James is indeed very creative, skillful and highly talented comic actor with good interpretation of roles in movies. He can as take any character assigned him especially playing the role of a woman in comic movies. His style of acting is loved and cherished especially among ladies because of the way he relates with them.

James attributed his success in taking the role of women for the fact that he is a great actor and perhaps having a twin sister. He revealed he loves it because he loves to show different sides of himself.

James popularity is growing by the day but said he was already popular with WAZOBIA TV hosting, but Jenifa’s Diary took the popularity to a whole different level.

James has so far done more stage plays than screen. He has starred in a two-man stage play, Once upon a Mad Man, produced by Bunmi Davies, where he played the role of a mentally unstable man in an asylum and another two-man stage play, PO, alongside Nedu of Wazobia FM.

He has also played as Road Side Sweepers who were ranting about the ills in the society, produced by YAW, Two-man stage play titled Checkpoint 1& 2, where he played the role of a corrupt police officer alongside Tuale of Wazobia FM.

His Personal Life

James is not yet married. He expressed his embarrassing moment was in 2016, when he wanted to get married to his long time girl friend, but along the line, the marriage was called off.
