Director Taika Waititi welcomes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Pom Klementieff in Australia as they gear up for Thor: Love & Thunder's filming.
Guardians of the Galaxy star Pom Klementieff gears up to film Thor: Love and Thunder. The actress plays Mantis in the MCU and was previously confirmed to return in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Before that, however, it seems like she'll reprise the role first in the upcoming Taika Waititi-directed movie.
Only three actors were previously confirmed when Thor: Love and Thunder was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Chris Hemsworth is obviously playing the titular character with both Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman reprising their respective roles as Valkyrie and Jane Foster. As filming nears, however, more details have come out regarding the film with both Chris Pratt's Star-Lord and Christian Bale's new character and the narrative's villain, Gorr the God Butcher, officially joining the project. The extended cast doesn't appear to end with just those, however, with Klementieff now expected to also partake in the blockbuster.
Taking it to her official Instagram account, the actress revealed that she's currently in Australia. While she didn't say what brought her to the Land Down Under, Waititi's comment on her image hints that she's in the country for Thor: Love and Thunder. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Marvel Studios had to shift and reshuffle their whole announced slate a few times. Aside from the release date getting changed, productions were also put on hold, and much like every MCU project, Thor: Love and Thunder's filming was put on limbo. Destin Cretton and Simu Liu's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings successfully wrapped up work without a single positive coronavirus test in Australia proved that shooting can be safely done, allowing Waititi's movie to finally settle on starting principal photography this January. Because of this, sightings of MCU actors and other actors to join Thor: Love and Thunder immediately spark rumors that they might be in town for the film. More recently, photos of Waititi and Idris Elba hanging out fueled speculations that Heimdall may be coming back to the franchise despite the character's death at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
Reports have claimed that Thor: Love & Thunder will feature an Avengers-style cast; this was backed up by Thompson's comments, saying that more characters from other pockets of the MCU are set to appear in the film. Even without these details, however, Klementieff reprising Mantis in the movie just makes sense. For starters, Thor was last seen with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Avengers: Endgame; in an effort to establish clear continuity, the movie must show how they eventually part ways, if they do. Star-Lord's confirmed appearance is also a clear indication that other members of his rag-tag team will somehow pop up in the blockbuster. The question now is just how involved they will be in the narrative.
