WandaVision Reveals What Darcy’s Been Up To Since Thor 2

WandaVision will reveal Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) has experienced a major career move since audiences last saw her in Thor: The Dark World.

Marvel's WandaVision will reveal a big career development for Darcy Lewis, who was last seen in Thor: The Dark World. The upcoming series will be the first of several set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will debut on Disney+. WandaVision releases January 15 and promises to be an exciting departure for the franchise. It will mix sitcom elements with the comic book action fans have come to expect as it explores Scarlet Witch and Vision's life in the suburbs. WandaVision will introduce audiences to new characters, including Kathryn Hahn's Agnes, while also welcoming back old favorites like Darcy and FBI agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park).

Played by Kat Dennings, Darcy made her MCU debut in 2011's Thor. She was Jane Foster (Natalie Portman)'s research assistant and provided comic relief throughout the film and its sequel. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced Dennings' return in August 2019. However, since then, little has been confirmed about Darcy's role in WandaVision, though set photos have suggested she'll work for SWORD alongside Captain Marvel's adult Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). It was also unclear if the show would address what Darcy's been up to since Thor: The Dark World.

Viewers have now received a hint thanks to a WandaVision production brief (via ComicBook). In it, director Matt Shakman says of Darcy, "She's gone on to become Dr. Darcy Lewis now. So, she’s a real expert in her field." Head writer Jac Schaeffer also talked about Darcy and Jimmy's roles in the series, explaining, "They have a mystery to solve. They have so many questions and no answers.”

Darcy's career development makes sense, considering the intelligence and passion for her work she showed in Thor and its follow up film. However, it's still unclear how much WandaVision will dive into Darcy's experiences since the events of Thor: The Dark World. The show is attempting some ambitious storytelling and has a decently sized cast to service. It's hard to say if there will be time for Darcy to talk at length about her life, or if her impressive career move will simply be stated as fact.

It's worth noting WandaVision may be the only chance audiences have to find out what Dennings' character has been doing. In November 2020, the actress said she didn't know if Darcy would return in Thor: Love and Thunder, despite Jane being a major part of the film as Mighty Thor. If Darcy doesn't wind up appearing in that movie, hopefully WandaVision will serve as a satisfying return for the character, at least giving a few clues about what she's experienced since Thor: The Dark World.
