The CW has released the synopsis for Batwoman season 2, episode 2, and it teases first meeting between Ryan and Alice. Heading into its sophomore run, Batwoman is going to look quite different. When the series first premiered in 2019, it starred Ruby Rose as leading heroine Kate Kane. Rose had played the part of Kate in an Arrowverse crossover before Batwoman premiered, and it looked like she would be sticking around for a while. However, last May brought the shocking news that Rose exited the series ahead of season 2. Kate will go missing before the season begins, and the role of Batwoman will instead be filled by new character Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie).

Ryan has been described as someone completely different from Kate, though for the first few episodes of the season, she'll wear her Batsuit. As Ryan is a brand new character, not even someone from the comics, fans are very curious to see how she will fit into Batwoman and make the title her own. The synopsis for the Batwoman season 2 premiere confirmed a Gotham in chaos without Kate and teased Ryan's first showdown with "Bruce Wayne" (Warren Christie), aka the villain Hush wearing Bruce's face.

Though season 2 hasn't premiered just yet, the CW (via ComicBook.com) has shared the synopsis for the second episode. Titled "Prior Criminal History", the synopsis suggests Ryan starts off believing her time as Batwoman is a one-and-done thing, though that won't last for long. The episode will feature another major faceoff for Kate, and it also looks to tease the arrival of Safiyah Sohail (Shivaani Ghai). Read on to see what's in store in "Prior Criminal History":

DOWNRIGHT BATTY – After her quick spin in the Batgear, Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) is back to facing the daily challenges of life as herself. Meanwhile, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) has a new, devious plan to get the attention of both Gotham and Safiyah (guest star Shivaani Ghai). With Kate still missing and the city in an uprising, Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang) are desperate to find a stand in. In a pinch, Ryan dons the suit again and comes face-to-face with Alice for the first time. Back at Crows Headquarters, Sophie and Commander Kane try to uncover who may have had a vendetta against Kate. Carl Seaton directed the episode written by James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash (#202). Original airdate 1/24/2021. Every episode of BATWOMAN will be available to stream on The CW App and CWTV.com the day after broadcast for free and without a subscription, log-in or authentication required.

While Batwoman season 2, episode 1 will feature Ryan's first time squaring off against Hush, fans will evidently have to wait an additional week to see her cross paths with Alice. Alice had a very personal dynamic with Kate, so it will be interesting to see how that changes with Ryan. The plot that Alice had established at the end of Batwoman season 1 was tailored specifically for Kate, so the villain will have to adjust her strategy going forward. Still, a new adversary could provide a fresh spark for her.

Safiyah's arrival on Batwoman has been teased since season 1, but fans will finally get to see her in season 2. Whether she will actually show her face in episode 2 remains to be seen, though even if she doesn't, her presence will be felt. It's clear Batwoman is hyping her up in a major way, so hopefully she won't disappoint. Beyond that, the start of Batwoman season 2 will continue to show Ryan easing into her new role, even as others continue to worry about Kate. It all kicks off next week.
