Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead is getting a trailer next week. The Netflix zombie film will bring Snyder back to the genre after his 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, but with a twist. Army of the Dead is part zombie horror, part heist film. It will follow a group of mercenaries who journey into the Nevada desert hoping to score some cash as a zombie outbreak spreads around the world. Snyder has become one of the biggest directors in Hollywood over the last decade as the architect of the DCEU, but Army of the Dead will be his first post-Justice League project.

Army of the Dead has been overlooked in recent months because of Snyder's other massive project releasing this year. The director is gearing up to release his cut of Justice League in March on HBO Max, but that film is more representative of Snyder's past than his future. With Army of the Dead, Snyder is looking to flesh out a new franchise for Netflix, with a planned prequel companion film to Army of the Dead already in the works. Now that Snyder can look past Justice League, his next film is coming into view.

Snyder announced on Twitter that Army of the Dead will hit Netflix on May 21. The director posted the news alongside a new poster that shows off a massive and bloody door to a safe. The director also teased the impending arrival of a trailer. The clip is set to hit the internet sometime on Thursday, February 25.

Snyder has already begun showing off promotional materials for the film, including looks at several of the characters. It was rumored that Army of the Dead would hit Netflix in time for summer, and that appears to be accurate. With just a few short months until the film's release, a trailer was all but imminent. Snyder is careful to call the clip a teaser, though, so there's no word on how much footage will be shown off. It surely won't be as expansive as the trailer for Snyder's Justice League, but that film also has four hours of footage to show off.

With Snyder moving on from the DCEU, the director has his choice of projects lined up. While Army of the Dead is first up, the director has also said that he is working on a faithful adaptation of the King Arthur mythology. After being so heavily involved with the DCEU for almost a decade, Snyder is finally looking elsewhere for new projects, and it will be exciting to see what the director does next after working within the franchise machine for so long. Army of the Dead will give fans the first taste of what the director has up his sleeve for the future and it will be the first time in a long time that Snyder is set free from the constraints of franchise filmmaking.
