Jim Carrey Gives Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Crew Member New Car
Jim Carrey gave a new car to a lucky crew member on Sonic the Hedgehog 2. After spending several years out of the spotlight and away from major Hollywood productions, the comedic legend returned to the big screen in 2020 for Sonic the Hedgehog. Paramount's live-action adaptation of the massively popular Sega video game franchise featured Ben Schwartz as the voice of the speedy blue hedgehog and James Marsden played the human lead of Tom. But, it was the decision to cast Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik that created a lot of interest in the movie.
Production is currently underway on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Jim Carrey has now given one crew member an extra special gift to thank them for their hard work. According to TMZ, Carrey held a raffle recently for all the crew members working out of Vancouver. The prize is a brand new Chevy Blazer RS, which is worth more than $40,000. Carrey randomly selected the winner on Friday morning and will give the lucky crew member the keys to the new ride.
Sonic the Hedgehog came out shortly before COVID-19 forced theaters around the world to close, but that didn't stop the movie from becoming a success story. It made over $300 million worldwide and received positive reviews after overhauling Sonic's CGI design. This made a sequel inevitable and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was already set up through the first film's ending. With teases of Carrey transforming into a game-accurate look for Robotnik and the arrival of Tails, fans became plenty excited for what will happen next.
This is quite the gesture from Carrey and surely a moment that the unnamed Sonic the Hedgehog 2 crew member will never forget. Receiving a brand new car at random right before the weekend is quite an unexpected bonus. This might be a one-time gift from Carrey, but perhaps he'll do other raffles as production continues. Now, other crew members on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 could be on the lookout for other contests just in case. And even though Carrey likely did this just for fun and not the publicity he'll get, this can also boost morale on set as filming continues under strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
Carrey giving away a car during Sonic the Hedgehog 2's filming is also welcomed confirmation that he has started working on the sequel. Some set photos from the movie have already come out, but Carrey's Dr. Robotnik has not been spotted yet. Instead, fans have received confirmation of Knuckles appearing alongside Sonic and Tails. Since Robotnik was last seen on a completely different world than Earth, that could explain why Carrey hasn't been seen yet. That could change as production on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 continues.
