Robert De Niro Suffers Leg Injury, Won’t Impact Killers of the Flower Moon

Despite star Robert De Niro suffering a leg injury, the production of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon won’t be impacted. Set in 1920s Oklahoma, the film explores the serial murders of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that would later become known as the “Reign of Terror.”

“While at his on-location home in Oklahoma for the filming of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Robert De Niro injured his quadriceps muscle which will be treated medically in New York,” said De Niro’s spokesperson Stan Rosenfield in a statement. “This will not affect production as he was not scheduled to film again for another three weeks.”

De Niro (The Irishman) joins Leonardo DiCaprio and Jesse Plemons (Game Night) in the film, which is De Niro’s tenth collaboration with Scorsese. The cast also includes Lily Gladstone (First Cow), Tantoo Cardinal (Wind River), Cara Jade Myers (This Is Us), JaNae Collins (Fukry), Jillian Dion (Legion), William Belleau (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Louis Cancelmi (The Irishman), Jason Isbell, and Sturgill Simpson (The Hunt).

“We are thrilled to finally start production on Killers of the Flower Moon in Oklahoma,” Scorsese said in a statement last month. “To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people. … We’re excited to start working with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalize a time in American history that should not be forgotten.”

Scorsese will direct and produce Killers of the Flower Moon from a script by Oscar winner and Emmy nominee Eric Roth (A Star is Born, Forrest Gump). It’s also based upon David Grann’s book of the same name. Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin is also producing alongside Bradley Thomas, DiCaprio, and Appian Way Productions.
