John Boyega & Filmmaker Joe Cornish Reuniting for Attack the Block 2
Attack the Block star John Boyega (Small Axe, Star Wars franchise) and writer/director Joe Cornish (Ant-Man) are reuniting on a sequel to the sci-fi cult horror-comedy with the Golden Globe winner reprising his role as Moses (via Deadline). The movie, whose plot details remain under wraps, comes from Studiocanal, Film4, Complete Fiction Pictures, & UpperRoom Productions.
Cornish returns to write and direct Attack the Block 2 and will also produce along with Boyega through the star’s UpperRoom Productions banner, Complete Fiction Pictures’ Nira Park, and James Wilson.
“It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released and so much has changed since then,” Boyega said. “I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
“I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack The Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action,” added Cornish.
The original film centered on a teenage street gang who have to defend their block from an alien invasion in South London on Guy Fawkes Night. The movie also starred Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost.
Attack the Block debuted in 2011 and launched the career of lead Boyega. Cornish received a BAFTA nomination for the film, which won the Audience Award at SXSW and the Los Angeles Film Festival.
