The CW has finally released the first trailer for the upcoming second season of the hit teen superhero series Stargirl, which is scheduled to make its return on Tuesday, August 10. The Stargirl Season 2 trailer, which you can check out below, provides a preview of Ysa Penarejo’s mysterious character. According to EW, Penarejo will be portraying the role of Jade, who in the comics is known as the daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott. This marks the DC character’s live-action debut.
The video also features Brec Bassinger’s Courtney as she tries to encourage the rest of JSA to continue with their superhero activities following their last battle against the Injustice Society. The other JSA members including Yolanda/Wildcat and Rick/Hourman think that they should disband because they’ve already defeated the threats. Unbeknownst to them, this is only the beginning as more villains are set to arrive in Blue Valley including Eclipso and The Shade.
Stargirl follows the story of Courtney Whitmore who is a smart, athletic, and above all else kind girl. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.
The series stars Brec Bassinger, Yvette Monreal, Cameron Gellman, Amy Smart, Trae Romano, Anjelika Washington, Luke Wilson, Meg DeLacy, and Joel McHale. Season 2 will feature the introduction of new villains with the addition of Nick Tarabay as Eclipso and Jonathan Cake as The Shade along with Jim Gaffigan as the voice of the CGI character Thunderbolt. Up-and-coming young actress Ysa Penarejo (Project Mc2) and Alkoya Brunson have also joined the new season as Jade and Jakeem Thunder, respectively.
John Wesley Shipp will also be guest-starring in the second season, reprising his Arrowverse role as Jay Garrick. This mini crossover will officially bring the series into the Arrowverse, following the events of the Crisis of the Infinite Earth event.
Stargirl is created by character creator Geoff Johns, who is also producing through his Mad Ghost Productions banner alongside Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions. The first season debuted on DC Universe but was then granted a second season renewal at The CW.
