Sony’s Brad Pitt-Led Action Pic Bullet Train Sets 2022 Release Date

Sony Pictures has officially set the release date for David Leitch’s newest action-thriller film titled Bullet Train, featuring a star-studded cast led by Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt. After wrapping up its production last March, the film has been scheduled to hit the theaters on April 8, 2022. Its current theatrical release date will see Bullet Train going up against four competitors in the form of Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Focus Features’ The Northman, Disney’s untitled live-action movie, and an untitled musical event film from Universal Pictures.

Based on Isaka Kotaro’s Japanese novel titled Maria Beetle, the film adaptation will reportedly center around a group of hitmen and assassins with conflicting motives on a train in Tokyo. Joining Pitt are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Andrew Koji, Joey King, Brian Tyree Henry, Michael Shannon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benito A. Martinez Ocasio, and Sandra Bullock in a possible cameo role. It will also feature Masi Oka, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Karen Fukuhara, Bad Bunny, and Lady Gaga.

Bullet Train is directed by David Leitch from a screenplay adapted by Zak Olkewicz (Fear Street). It will be produced by Leitch and Kelly McCormick through their company 87North along with Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven, Training Day, The Equalizer) and Kat Samick (The Equalizer, Southpaw, Infinite). Executive producers are Kotaro’s Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma, with Brittany Morrissey executive overseeing the film for Sony Pictures.

Bullet Train marks the latest collaboration between Leitch (Hobbs & Shaw) and Pitt, who first worked together in 1999 on Fight Club on which Leitch worked as an uncredited stunt double for Pitt, followed by 2001’s The Mexican, Ocean’s Eleven, and Spy Game, the latter two in which he doubled again for Pitt and helped coordinate the martial arts stunts on the Tony Scott-helmed film. Leitch would once again double for Pitt in 2004’s Troy and 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith and would later reunite with the star in 2018’s Deadpool 2, in which Pitt cameoed as Vanisher and Leitch directed.
