John Lithgow to Return as the Trinity Killer in Showtime’s Dexter Revival

According to Deadline, award-winning actor John Lithgow has signed on to reprise his memorable role as Arthur Mitchell a.k.a the Trinity Killer in Showtime’s forthcoming Dexter revival. His casting comes after nine years since last appearing as the twisted character in the fourth season finale of the series’ original run. For his performance, Lithgow earned his second Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor.

Further details about his character’s return is still unclear, especially when Michael C Hall’s Dexter had already killed him during the season finale of the fourth season. The outlet notes that Lithgow is only expected to film for a day on the revival’s production in Los Angeles.

The Dexter revival will be set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura. It continues to follow the titular serial character, who is now living under the fake name of Jim Lindsay in a world away from Miami. Joining Michael C. Hall are a whole new cast including Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Michael Cyril Creighton, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah, Jack Alcott, Jamie Chung, and Oscar Wahlberg.

The upcoming limited series is being executive produced by returning showrunner Clyde Phillips, with Marcos Siega set to direct six episodes. Executive producers are Hall, Siega, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro, and Scott Reynolds.

The original series ran on-air for eight seasons from 2006-2013. During its original run, it earned multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominations as well as a Peabody Award, with Hall taking home a Golden Globe in 2010 for his leading performance.
