Legendary film director, Wes Anderson, is setting his sights on Spain as production for his upcoming project is set to begin this fall. Anderson is best known for his pastel-coated sets, eclectic characters, and deadpan humor found in works like The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Alongside actor Tilda Swinton, a recurring actor in several of his films, Anderson will be attending the Cannes Film Festival in France next week, where the director will play his long-awaited film, The French Dispatch, in competition.

As reported by Variety, Anderson is shooting his new untitled movie in the small town of Chinchón, Spain, just outside of Madrid. The project was allegedly supposed to shoot in Rome but moved to the desert-like location, causing some to speculate if Anderson plans to shoot a western. Production is set to begin in September, but any further details are being strictly guarded, as Anderson is "not ready to share any details" about the upcoming project.

Anderson has never been a stranger to shooting outside of his native United States. A Paris resident himself, the director has set his films in countries all across the world, including Germany, France, and Japan. After filming indie cult films like Bottlerocket and Rushmore early on in his career, the director has seemingly moved on from filming stateside for now.

The French Dispatch, starring Anderson regulars like Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, and Frances McDormand, alongside A-lister newcomers like Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, was originally slotted to debut at Cannes in summer 2020. However, after the festival was canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the film was placed on hold. Last month, it was announced that The French Dispatch finally had an October release date. Whatever comes next from the critically-acclaimed director will surely be a hit amongst his loyal following of fans. With his signature humor, set design, and an all-star cast, it's only a matter of time before the director drops more details about the future film.
