Lance Reddick Returning as Charon in Lionsgate's John Wick: Chapter 4
As production continues on John Wick: Chapter 4, Deadline brings word that Lionsgate has finalized negotiations to bring Fringe star Lance Reddick back to the John Wick universe. Reddick has officially signed on to reprise his role as Continental Hotel concierge Charon in Chad Stahelski’s highly-anticipated fourth installment, reuniting him with Keanu Reeves. This comes after it was recently reported that Scott Adkins is in negotiations to join the action sequel.
Charon has been an ally to the titular assassin since the first film and was most notably thoughtful enough to take care of John Wick’s dog while he fighting enemies outside of the hotel. However, fans should expect that this won’t be the case anymore for the upcoming sequel as the character was last seen along with Ian McShane’s Winston betraying Wick in order to regain the hotel’s sacred status from the High Table.
John Wick: Chapter 4 was first announced two years ago immediately after the record-setting opening weekend of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which went on to gross over $300 million worldwide. The fourth installment will feature the return of Keanu Reeves as the eponymous assassin, who at the end of the last film was betrayed by Ian McShane’s Winston and was last seen suffering from multiple injuries.
Joining Reeves are franchise newcomers Japanese-British pop superstar Rina Sawayama in her film acting debut, Shamier Anderson (Awake), Bill Skarsgard (IT), Hiroyuki Sanada (Mortal Kombat), and Donnie Yen (IP Man films), who is reportedly playing an old friend of John Wick.
John Wick: Chapter 4 will again be directed by Chad Stahelski from a screenplay co-written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, who is taking over from franchise creator Derek Kolstad. It is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Stahelski with Reeves and Louise Rosner as executive producers. Production is scheduled to begin this summer in France, Germany, and Japan.
The film is currently scheduled to make its debut on May 27, 2022.
