Shakman will be directing from a script written by Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Pet Sematary, The Kingkiller Chronicle) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider, Captain Marvel, Silver Sable), marking the project as the first time ever a Star Trek movie has been written by female screenwriters.

The untitled film will reportedly begin production next spring with a release date currently set for June 9, 2023 (via THR). Abrams will produce.

Besides this year’s nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for WandaVision, Shakman received his first Emmy nomination in 2020 for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for the Elle Fanning-led Hulu series The Great. Shakman’s credits also include Succession, The Boys, Billions, Game of Thrones, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, You’re the Worst, and The Good Wife.
