Loki Director Kate Herron Confirms She Won’t Return For Season 2

Following the official confirmation of Loki’s second season renewal, director and executive producer Kate Herron (Sex Education) has confirmed that she will not be coming back for the next season. Speaking with Deadline, Herron revealed that even though she’s excited for what’s coming next for the Tom Hiddleston-led series, she had always been committed to working on only one season of the project and that the renewal order was also a surprise to her.

“I’m not returning,” Herron said. “I always planned to be just on for this and to be honest, Season 2 wasn’t in the — that’s something that just came out and I’m so excited. I’m really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I just think I’m proud of what we did here and I’ve given it my all. I’m working on some other stuff yet to be announced.”

When asked about the possibility of working with Marvel Studios again in the future, Herron positively answered that she would indeed love to with the studio again, but for now, she wants to shift her full attention towards the personal projects she’s currently working on.

Herron continued, “I’m just focused on my own stuff at the moment. I love Marvel and I’d love to work with them again, but my outing with Loki is what I’ve done with them.”

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Loki features the God of Mischief as he gets arrested by the Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space, due to the damage he had done with the timeline. Now, the fan-favorite villain must willingly work with the TVA in order to fix the reality he broke or else face deletion from existence.

The series stars MCU vet Tom Hiddleston as the titular character, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Judge Renslayer, and Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15. Season 1 also featured appearances from Sasha Lane, Cailey Fleming, Richard E. Grant, DeObia Oparei, Jack Veal, and Jaime Alexander.

Loki hails from head writer Michael Waldron and director Kate Herron, who are both executive producing. All six episodes are now available for streaming on Disney+.
