The release of 20th Century Studios’ comedy feature Vacation Friends this past weekend has reportedly given Hulu its most-watched opening weekend for an original film to date, according to Deadline.
Following the big streaming debut, a Vacation Friends sequel, titled Honeymoon Friends, was announced, with Clay Tarver returning to write and direct.
The main cast, consisting of John Cena (The Suicide Squad), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Yvonne Orji (Insecure), and Meredith Hagner (Palm Springs), will also return for the sequel along with producer Todd Garner (Tag, Playing with Fire).
“In this raw and raunchy comedy, straight-laced Marcus and Emily (Howery, Orji) are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron and Kyla (Cena, Hagner) at a resort in Mexico,” reads the official synopsis for Vacation Friends. “Living in the moment, the usually level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new vacation friends. Months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding, creating chaos and proving that what happens on vacation, doesn’t necessarily stay on vacation.”
Directed by Tarver (Silicon Valley), the movie was written by Tarver, Tom Mullen, Tim Mullen, Jonathan Goldstein, and John Francis Daley.
Vacation Friends was also produced by Timothy M. Bourne (Love, Simon, The Hate U Give), with Steve Pink and Sean Robins serving as executive producers.
