Howard University Renames College of Fine Arts in Honor of Chadwick Boseman

More than a week since the first death anniversary of Chadwick Boseman, Howard University is continuing to honor his legacy by officially renaming its College of Fine Arts after their late alumnus. The beloved Black Panther star graduated from Howard in 2000, with a bachelor of arts degree in directing. While in college, he was notably mentored by acclaimed actress Phylicia Rashad, who is currently the dean of the Howard University’s College of Fine Arts which has now been renamed as Chadwick A. Boseman Colllege of Fine Arts.

In addition, the university has also released a time-lapse video which you can check out below, featuring the installation of the new name on the school’s building.

Before gaining worldwide recognition for his role as T’Challa/Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Boseman first received accolades for his first starring role in 2013’s Jackie Robinson baseball biopic 42. He followed that historic portrayal with two more: As singer James Brown in 2014’s Get on Up and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in 2017’s Marshall.

Even after his death, he continues to shine with his critically acclaimed performance as Levee Green in Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which earned the actor his first Golden Globe win and solo SAG win, both for Best Actor.

His last performance as T’Challa was recently released during the second episode of Marvel Studios’ first animated MCU series What If…?, where the character appeared as a different hero. According to the show’s executive producer Brad Winderbaum, Boseman’s T’Challa is still expected to appear in three more episodes of the first season, where he will again play different versions of the character.
