Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Rian Johnson took to Twitter to announce that production on Netflix’s forthcoming sequel to 2019’s acclaimed whodunnit film Knives Out has officially been completed. This comes after more than two months of filming, where the first half of production took place in Greece. Currently, there is no release date attached to the Daniel Craig-led mystery sequel.
We just wrapped production on the next Benoit Blanc mystery and also I finally watched Annette and holy shit it’s amazing. Sending so much love and gratitude to our INCREDIBLE crew and cast and Leos Carax! Rian Johnson
Knives Out 2 is once again written and directed by Rian Johnson. It is being produced by Johnson and Ram Bergman. Further details about the plot and its characters are still being kept under wraps, but Daniel Craig is expected to reprise his role as private detective Benoit Blanc.
Just like the first film, Rian Johnson has assembled another star-studded cast who will be joining Craig in the second installment. This includes Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Edward Norton (Fight Club), Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures), Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton), Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), and Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters), and Ethan Hawke (Sinister).
Earlier this year, Netflix has successfully won the rights for Johnson’s two Knives Out sequels, which reportedly cost the streamer over $400 million. The first film had grossed over $311 million at the worldwide box office and had also received acclaimed and multiple award nominations including an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
