Hellraiser Reboot Sets New Cast, Jamie Clayton to Star as Pinhead

The upcoming reboot of Hellraiser has officially announced its cast, and the face of its new Pinhead, according to a recent report from Deadline.https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/88aa4396b9a74f0c30ff55c506851689.jpgJamie Clayton (The L Word: Generation Q) has reportedly been named as the new Pinhead, the iconic character from the film series that was initially played by Doug Bradley. The rest of the confirmed cast includes Odessa A’zion, Brandon Flynn, Goran Visnjic, Drew Starkey, Adam Faison, Aoife Hinds, and Hiam Abbass.

The rebooted film will be produced by Marc Toberoff and Clive Barker, who created the original film based on his 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart. David S. Goyer and Keith Levine will also join on as producers. The Hellraiser remake is being directed by David Bruckner (The Ritual, The Nighthouse) from a screenplay written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, based on the story treatment by Goyer. Further details about its plot and characters are still being under wraps, but it was previously rumored that it might feature a female Pinhead. In addition, Odessa A’Zion (Grand Army) has reportedly been tapped for a leading role in the film.

“Next year marks the 35th anniversary since Hellraiser first haunted our dreams. It’s only fitting to come full circle in collaborating with Clive, the original creator and master of visionary horror. We look forward to working with our partners at Hulu in bringing this unique take on the original to new audiences,” said Peter Oillataguerre, President of Production for Spyglass Media Group.

Bruckner added, “It’s been such an honor to have Clive onboard to help support and shepherd us through the incredible universe he created so long ago. Combined with a fearless and committed cast, including the amazing Jamie Clayton, who fully embodies the role as the Hell Priest, we’re aiming to create a very special new chapter in the Hellraiser legacy.”

“Having seen some of the designs from David Bruckner’s new Hellraiser film, they pay homage to what the first film created, but then take it to places it’s never been before. This is a Hellraiser on a scale that I simply didn’t expect. David and his team are steeped in the story’s mythology, but what excites me is their desire to honor the original even as they revolutionize it for a new generation,” said Barker.

The project is being produced by Goyer and Keith Levine through their Phantom Four banner. It is a production by Spyglass Media Group, which is also serving as its financer. Last May, Hulu acquired the distribution rights to the film.

The Hellraiser franchise is based on Clive Barker’s horror novella titled The Hellbound Heart. Released in 1987, the first film originally told the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell. Pinhead is the franchise’s villain, who leads the sadomasochist demons called Cenobites, who are summoned through an antique puzzle box. Due to its cult following, it was then followed by nine more sequels.

The upcoming film remake isn’t the only one currently in the works as HBO is also developing a series adaptation of Hellraiser, with Clive Barker attached to executive produce, and David Gordon Green set to direct several episodes.
