The Big Mouth Season 5 trailer highlights the new season’s love and hate theme that will lead to romantic confessions, angry tirades, and vicious rumors as lovebugs and hate worms wriggle their way into the hearts of the Bridgeton Middle crew. It also gives us our first look at the new characters who will lead the series’ upcoming spin-off titled Human Resources.

Big Mouth centers around a group of seventh graders as they deal with the pleasantries of growing up, including hormones self-discovery, and sex-ed classes. The voice cast includes Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Ayo Edebiri, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Jordan Peele, and Andrew Rannells.

“Starting with ‘No Nut November’ and continuing through New Years Eve, Season 5 takes on the theme of Love & Hate with the introduction of lovebugs and hate worms, amorphous creatures that can shift between the two forms (like caterpillars and butterflies),” reads the synopsis. “Nick’s lovebug, Walter, pushes Nick to pursue his feelings for Jessi until she publicly rejects him, turning Walter into a hate worm who leads Nick down a dark, rancorous path. Meanwhile, Jessi’s lovebug, Sonya, appears as Jessi gets closer with Ali and eventually wonders if she loves her as more than a friend. Jessi and Ali’s new close bond, and joint co-opting of Missy’s affinity group, sends Missy into her own hate spiral, fueled by hate worm Rochelle. Jealousy, unrequited love, and newfound crushes abound in this new form-breaking season as the Big Mouth teens navigate 8th grade.”

The new season will also feature guest stars including Brandon Kyle Goodman, Keke Palmer, and Pamela Adlon, with the first two set as series regulars on the show’s upcoming workplace comedy spin-off Human Resources.

Big Mouth is created and executive produced by Nick Kroll, Andre Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett. Ahead of its fifth season, the series had already secured a sixth season renewal from Netflix.
