Mobile app for cooking gas retail debuts

To ensure increased penetration of the use of cooking gas and its safe distribution in Nigeria, Smart Gas, a technology firm operating in the downstream sector, has launched a mobile app that connects Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) users to sellers in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to the CEO of Smart Gas, Dr. Yinka Opeke, the app aggregates consumers, gas retailers and drivers.

“However, to consummate a sale, a client must sign up to place an order, a driver must sign up to accept the order and a gas retailer must sign up to sell products. These three players are essential on the app. Registered clients can place orders from any part of the world, home or abroad, but the delivery address must be Nigeria,” she added.

She further explained that the seamlessness in the order process was such that once a client places an order on the mobile app, it immediately becomes visible on the dashboard of a nearby driver who then accepts the order and proceeds to fulfill it at the nearest registered independent gas retailer.

“Delivery charges are based on kilometres covered using Google maps. On the Smart Gas App, clients can monitor the progress of their orders via notifications and live tracking, and their unique referral code can be shared with family and friends. Clients are able to refill their cylinders, purchase new cylinders as well as order cylinder exchanges,” she explained.

Opeke, however, noted that Smart Gas goes beyond trading in LPG and cylinders, but also develops win-win solutions for all stakeholders including job creation, consumer empowerment, collaborative initiatives and introduction of innovative solutions in the LPG industry.

“Smart Gas prides itself in their advocacy for the usage of safer cylinders through their cylinder sales, educative skits and content creation on social media amongst other channels,” Opeke stressed.
