God of War PC Version Announced for Next Year

Another one of Sony’s biggest exclusives is jumping to PC. Sony revealed that the 2018 God of War reboot is headed to PC on January 14, 2022 for $49.99.

Sony released a semi-spoilery trailer and a non-spoilery blog post going over some of its new features. The port will have an unlocked frame rate, support for a “wide range of other game pads,” a host of graphical options, DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex low latency technology, 21:9 widescreen support, mouse and keyboard customization, and a host of pre-order and digital deluxe edition DLC from the PlayStation 4 version. This includes the Death’s Vow armor sets, Exile’s Guardian shield skin, Buckler of the Forge shield skin, Shining Elven Soul shield skin, and Dökkenshieldr shield skin. Sony is promising to share more information before its 2022 launch.

Sony has already put some of its first-party games on PC and even acquired a new studio to presumably help with such ports in the future (although there was no mention of Nixxes on the game’s Steam page). Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone went to the PC in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

And while not as extensive of an upgrade as their PC ports, all three games, God of War included, have been updated on PS4 to run better on PS5 through backwards compatibility. This includes running at 4K at 60 frames per second.

God of War: Ragnarok has not been confirmed for PC. While its strategy is a little sporadic, it appears as though Sony waits at least a few years after the initial console release before announcing a PC version, if it announces one at all.
