Mothering Sunday is being led by Odessa Young (The Stand, Shirley) along with Colin Firth, and The Crown co-stars Olivia Colman and Josh O’Connor. Joining them are Sope Dirisu, Glenda Jackson, Simon Shepherd, Caroline Harker, and Emma D’Arcy.
“On a warm spring day in 1924, housemaid and foundling Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) finds herself alone on Mother’s Day,” reads the synopsis. “Her employers, Mr. and Mrs. Niven are out and she has the rare chance to spend an afternoon of abandon with her secret lover, Paul, the boy from the manor house nearby who is Jane’s long-term love despite the fact that he’s engaged to be married to another woman, a childhood friend, and daughter of his parents’ friends. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Jane’s life forever.”
Based on Graham Swift’s acclaimed 2016 drama novel, Mothering Sunday is directed by French filmmaker Eva Husson from a screenplay adapted by Alice Birch (Succession, Normal People). Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol) and Stephen Woolley (The Crying Game) of Number 9 Films are producing.
