According to Variety, Starz has officially given a series order to the upcoming Party Down revival of the short-lived sitcom from Paul Rudd, John Enbom, Rob Thomas, and Dan Etheridge, who are all coming back to serve as executive producers.
The original cast including Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, and Megan Mullally have signed on to reprise their respective roles as Henry, Constance, Ron, Roman, Kyle, and Lydia.
However, Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan will not be able to return for her role as Casey Klein, due to scheduling conflicts with the recently announced leading roles in the Fatal Attraction series for Paramount+, and FX on Hulu’s Fleishman Is in Trouble.
Party Down follows a Los Angeles catering team – a sextet of Hollywood wannabes stuck working for tips while hoping for their “big break.” Each episode of this half-hour comedy finds the hapless catering team working a new event – and inevitably getting tangled up with the colorful guests and their absurd lives.
“After more than 10 years, we’re excited to have the cast, many of whom are now hugely popular award-winning stars, return to don their pink bowties and head back to the party,” Starz CEO and President, Jeffrey Hirsch said in a statement. “The fan demand for a Party Down revival is clear and we look forward to what Rob, Paul, John, Dan and now Adam will do as they bring this special project and these hilarious characters back to life.”
Created by Paul Rudd, John Enbom, Rob Thomas, and Dan Etheridge, the original Starz series ran on-air for two seasons from 2009-2010. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, it was ultimately canceled due to low ratings and main cast shakeups where it lost its two main cast members Jane Lynch and Adam Scott to other TV shows such as Glee and Parks and Recreation, respectively.
The Party Down revival will be executive produced by Scott, with Enbom set as the showrunner It is a production by Lionsgate Television, with executive vice president of original programming Karen Bailey overseeing the project on behalf of Starz.
