“This is that moment of, like, ‘Can Tom Holland stand up on his own and be a leading man?’ I know that makes me sound like a dick for saying that,” Holland said. “But for me it is, ‘Can I do it without the Lycra?'”

The 25-year-old actor went on to explain how doing Nathan Drake’s stunts in Uncharted “absolutely broke” him, describing them as more difficult and physically demanding than anything he has ever done in previous MCU movies. Due to its challenging stunts, he revealed that by the time production finally wrapped, he had developed tendinitis with his body hurting all over.

“I never realized how lucky I am that Spider-Man wears a mask, because when he’s bouncing around and flying from buildings, that’s all CG. In Uncharted it’s just me in a henley and cargo pants. That film absolutely broke me.”

Holland also revealed that during the film’s five-month temporary filming shutdown, he decided to put on weight by training hard in order to keep up with co-star Mark Wahlberg’s physique.

“I saw [Mark Wahlberg] walk onto set in his costume and I was like, ‘Fuck, he is twice my size,'” Holland shares. “After the [COVID] lockdown, we had five months off, and I just ate and trained and ate and trained. When I got back on set, the first thing he said to me was, ‘Wow, somebody has been training.'”

Directed by Zombieland and Venom director Ruben Fleischer, Uncharted is expected to be a prequel to the game series and will be taking inspiration from both a sequence of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, in which young thief Nathan Drake first meets future partner Victor Sullivan, and the fourth installment in the game franchise, A Thief’s End.

The film adaptation stars Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, and Mark Wahlberg (Transformers films). It will also feature Academy Award-nominated actor Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro, Pain and Glory), Grey’s Anatomy actress Sophia Ali and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Tati Gabrielle.

The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on February 18, 2022,
