Steve Zahn Joins Cast of Limited-Series Drama George & Tammy

Steve Zahn has joined the cast of John Hillcoat’s upcoming limited series George & Tammy, according to a recent report from Deadline.

The series, which is based on the real-life marriage between musicians George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Zahn will play George Richey in the film, a songwriter, producer, and one of the biggest artists of the Nashville country music scene. Richey married Wynette in 1975 following her split with Jones, and the couple remained married until Wynette’s death in 1998.

George & Tammy is set to star Michael Shannon as George Jones, and Jessica Chastain as Tammy Wynette, and will be a six-episode limited series that premieres exclusively on Spectrum before moving to Paramount+ and the Paramount Network. The series’ production began today in North Carolina.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be reunited with John Hillcoat and Michael Shannon having worked with them both previously,” said Chastain in a statement. “John brings his artistry and leadership to all of his projects while Michael’s brilliant performances make everyone raise their game. I’m excited Steve Zahn will also be joining the project, I’ve loved him ever since Happy, Texas and really admire his recent work in The White Lotus. I’m so grateful to have such talent for our exploration of George Jones and Tammy Wynette.”
