Six Feet Under Follow-Up Series in Early Development Stages

HBO is in the early stages of developing a follow-up show to the hit series Six Feet Under, according to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The report notes that no writer is attached to the series yet, and it’s currently unclear whether or not the series would be a direct sequel, or perhaps something like a remake or prequel series to the show. At the moment, the series is said to not be on any kind of fast track and is instead simply in the very early stages of development.

Alan Ball — the creator of the original series — and executive producers Bob Greenblatt and David Janollari are all attached as EPs of the series. The original Six Feet Under premiered in June 2001 and ran for five seasons, but became a huge hit for the company, winning nine Emmys over the course of its run and getting nominated for outstanding drama series three separate times.

Six Feet Under starred Peter Krause, Michael C. Hall, Frances Conroy, Lauren Ambrose, Freddy Rodriguez, and more. The series centered around the death of a funeral home director who gives ownership of the company to his two songs.
