Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up Sets Netflix Record

According to Variety, Adam McKay’s latest star-studded film Don’t Look Up has officially set a new Netflix record following its streaming debut last December 24.

The mega streamer has confirmed that the dark comedy film has already been streamed more than 152 millions hours during its first week. Because of this, it has earned a spot on the streamer’s current top ten movie list in many countries.

Don’t Look Up is written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Adam McKay. The film features an all-star ensemble cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as two low-level astronomers, who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet earth.

“Kate Dibiasky, an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system,” reads the official synopsis. “The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe, Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason, to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie and Jack. With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical — what will it take to get the world to just look up?!”

Additional cast includes Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, Tomer Sisley with Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep.

Don’t Look Up is based on the story by McKay and David Sirota. It is produced by McKay and Kevin Messick through their Hyperobject Industries banner.
