She-Hulk Will Be ‘More Comedic’ Than Other Marvel Shows

Not too much is known about the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk, but according to director Kat Coiro, fans should expect to see a ton of humor in the upcoming comic book series.

Coiro — who directs multiple episodes for the upcoming series — recently spoke with The Wrap, where she spoke about coming into the series focused on the characters more than just the superhero genre.

“I never choose a project based on genre. And I actually don’t think very much about genre, I think about character,” Coiro said, before hinting that She-Hulk will feature a mix of heart and humor. “And I think about the emotional lives of the characters and, you know, can I bring something? Can I bring a mix of humor and heart to this? Because that is what I love to watch. And it’s what I love to work with. And so when I stepped into, you know, the Marvel playground — the cool thing about Marvel is that it is an ever-evolving universe and you have straight dramas, and you have very comedic films, and we are in that world where we’re definitely playing with a more comedic world, but it also is still part of Marvel land.”

Coiro noted that her philosophy of focusing on the characters first and “finding the humor” is something that she went into She-Hulk with, so fans should expect to see it resonant when the series premieres later this year.

The series is set to see introduce some new faces to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Renée Elise Goldsberry will play Amelia and Ginger Gonzaga is confirmed for the project. As far as returning faces, Mark Ruffalo returns and Tim Roth will reprise Abomination from the Edward Norton-led The Incredible Hulk.

The series is being developed and written by Jessica Gao, who wrote the “Pickle Rick” episode of Rick and Morty‘s third season. Kat Cairo (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dead to Me) and Anu Valia (Lucia, Before and After) will direct and executive produce.

This legal comedy, Phase Four Marvel show will have 10 30-minute episodes and will star Jameela Jamil, Tim Roth, Ginger Gonzaga, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Josh Segarra, and, reportedly, Megan Thee Stallion. After being delayed, the show began filming in April and wrapped up in August.
