Amazon’s College-Set The Boys Spin-Off Loses Two Lead Actors

After securing an official series order from Amazon Studios last September, it looks like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s forthcoming The Boys spin-off series has encountered another pre-production setback as it loses two members of its main cast.

Deadline brings word that Aimee Carrero (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and Shane Paul McGhie (Deputy) have decided to exit their leading roles in the untitled college-set superhero project.

The outlet notes that their departures from the spin-off might be due to its long pre-production stage and potential creative changes to the characters they’ve first signed up for over a year ago. This setback also comes after original showrunner Craig Rosenberg had left the project over “creative differences,” with Amazon and Sony Pictures TV. Replacing him are Agent Carter duo Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters.

The Boys spin-off will be set in America’s only college for young adult superheroes, ineffectually referred to as supes, run by Vought International and is being described as “an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive supes as they put their physical, sexual and moral boundaries to the test,” blending the pitfalls of a college series with the gritty competitive nature of The Hunger Games and heart, satire and raunch of the main series.

The project will be loosely inspired by the G-Men, a parody of the X-Men from The Boys comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. It currently stars Lizze Broadway, Jaz Sinclair, Maddie Phillips, and Reina Hardesty.

The Boys spin-off will be executive produced by Fazekas and Butters along with Eric Kripke, Rogen, Goldberg, and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures and Neal H. Moritz and Payun Shetty of Original Film, while Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television will produce.
