The report notes that Eddie Murphy — star of the original series — is set to reprise his role as Axel Foley, with Netflix set to distribute the film. Acclaimed filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer is once again set to take on producing duties. For Molloy, this will be his first major feature film following a string of successful short films, including The Underdog for Apple, which won a variety of awards, including four Gold Cannes Lions.

Molloy will step in for directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who were originally set to direct the film, but stepped away in order to continue work on the Warner Bros. film Batgirl. Deadline’s report mentions that Beverly Hill Cops 4 has no official production start date, and is instead still in development.

The original Beverly Hills Cop released in 1984 and starred Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a cop from Detroit who visits Beverly Hills, California to solve the murder of his best friend. The film was a smash hit, earning more than $300 million at the box office and even earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The film also spawned two sequels, which released in 1987 and 1994, but didn’t receive the praise or box office success of the original.
