NEON has released the official Crimes of the Future teaser trailer and poster for the upcoming sci-fi body horror film, starring Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, and Léa Seydoux. It is scheduled to make its world premiere at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival as an Official Selection for its competition category.
Set in a not-so-distant future, Crimes of the Future is written and directed by David Cronenberg (The Fly, Maps to the Stars). It stars Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar, Lihi Kornowski, Tanaya Beatty, Nadia Litz, Yorgos Karamichos, and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos.
“In the film, as the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations,” reads the synopsis. “With his partner Caprice, Saul Tenser, celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin, an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.”
The film marks Cronenberg and Mortensen’s latest collaboration after working together on two acclaimed drama films A History of Violence and Eastern Promises. Production took place in Athens, Greece.
