Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase Date Set for This Summer

Xbox and Bethesda will move forward with their regular joint showcase on June 12 at 1 p.m. ET in spite of E3’s cancellation.

This is the standard operating procedure at this point for the publisher, as Microsoft had separated itself from the popular gaming convention in the years before the global pandemic put the nail in its coffin.

In the past, Xbox’s showcase has been the place to see the reveals of its biggest in-development titles and what is coming to Game Pass, and 2021 saw mega-publisher Bethesda join in after becoming a subsidiary of Microsoft’s gaming division. One can expect fewer reveals this time around simply due to the number of titles that are already waiting in the wings. With games like Redfall, Avowed, and Contraband existing currently as teaser trailers that barely explain themselves, this year could be the time to expand on what Xbox gamers can expect from the first-party publishing wing of the platform.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that Xbox’s plans have changed drastically in the years since those teasers made their debut. Behind-the-scenes talk about games like Rare’s Everwild and the Perfect Dark reboot have been less than promising, and the company has an unfortunate habit of canceling announced titles that it’s still trying to shake off.

At the very least, those who tune into Xbox’s big showcase on June 12 will be in for a surprise. The company’s holiday season currently rests on the shoulders of Bethesda’s much-anticipated Starfield, but there’s every chance that a few surprises may build out that roster and let the green team compete with Sony and Nintendo’s strong December offerings.

June is also home to Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. However, Keighley hasn’t nailed down more specific dates, but did say it will only be in June this year, as opposed to one that is more spread out. Other companies like Sony and Nintendo have also yet to plant their stake in the ground.
