Bridgerton Season 3 Will Focus on Colin and Penelope’s Story

Netflix has finally announced the next leading couple for the upcoming third season of its popular romance drama Bridgerton.

The new installment will officially be deviating from the order of the Julia Quinn’s novel series, as the story will now unexpectedly shift its focus to the budding romance between Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton and Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope Featherington. Their story has been teased since the first season, which has been mainly about Penelope’s one-sided crush on the third Bridgerton son.

Bridgerton Season 3 will now be based on the fourth book of the series titled Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Colin and Penelope will be succeeding the passionate love stories of Daphne and Simon from Season 1, and Anthony and Kate from the latest season.

It’s unclear why the creative team decided to change the Netflix series’ chronological order from the books. Fans previously anticipated that the next story would be about Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton and his romance with Sophie Beckett.

The cast for Bridgerton includes Phoebe Dynevor, Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Newton, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, Polly Walker, Bessie Carter, and Harriet Cains. Also returning is Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown. Joining them in the latest season are Simone Ashley, Shelley Conn, Calam Lynch, Charithra Chandran, Rupert Young, and Rupert Evans.

The series is being adapted by Scandal veteran Chris Van Dusen, who serves alongside showrunner and executive producer Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers of Shondaland.
