In an interview with Jeux Video translated by Video Game Chronicle, Christophe Gans, the director of the 2006 adaption of the classic horror franchise, revealed that he has a script in hand for a new film based on the games. Gans wrote the script during the lockdown caused by the global pandemic.

He spoke about writing a Silent Hill film in the modern day. However, his wording is a little tricky since it’s not completely clear if it would actually be released next year or just that he would like for it to come out next year.

“Silent Hill is a bit like The Twilight Zone, the fourth dimension, a place where anything and everything can happen. I worked on a new Silent Hill which is a Silent Hill of the year 2023 – because the film would be released next year – and not a Silent Hill as I imagined it in 2006. It is a Silent Hill for today’s audiences while being ultra respectful of the saga.”

Gans then went on about how Silent Hill was ahead of its time.

“I’m trying to take into account what I’ve seen recently, what’s most original and amazing in horror films, and see if Silent Hill has the seeds, or even the expression of that,” said Gans. “Silent Hill has always been an unusual game and ahead of its time.”

While there are no concrete details on the film outside of this script or if it is even happening, it could possibly coincide with or at least be a part of Konami’s alleged revival of the series.

While neither of the prior Silent Hill films could be considered classics (and the second of which Gans wasn’t involved with), the visuals were a standout and sometimes felt lifted directly from the mainline games. This is due to Christophe Gans and his reverence for the franchise. He initially gained the rights to adapt the series following a video interview directly with Konami where he proved his love for the series.
