George R.R. Martin Confirms Jon Snow Series Is in Development

During a recent interview with the BBC, Emilia Clarke — who played Daenerys Targaryen in the series — said that actor Kit Harington (who plays Jon Snow) had told her about it in the past, and that as far as she’s aware, Harington is helping to create the entire show.

“He has told me about it,” Clarke said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “And I know it exists. It’s happening. It’s been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he’s in it from the ground up. So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington.”

While Clarke didn’t go into further details, Martin confirmed her side of things, stating in a recent blog post that Clarke was correct, and that the series — which has a working title of Snow — was brought to Martin by Harington, who also brought with him various writers to the project, all of whom Martin was unable to name at the moment.

“Yes, it was Kit Harington who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet … but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific,” said Martin, before revealing that he was involved in the creative aspect of the series, noting that he had been working with the team assembled by Kit Harington as well as his own team, and that the Jon Snow series, as well as many other Game of Thrones projects, are all still in the very early scripting stages.

“I am involved, just as I am with [the Game of Thrones prequels in the works] The Hedge Knight and The Sea Snake and Ten Thousand Ships, and all the animated shows,” Martin said. “Kit’s team have visited me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and my own team of brilliant, talented writer/consultants to hammer out the show.”
