Sega Announces 11 More Games for Mega Drive Mini 2
Sega has unveiled 11 more games for the Mega Drive Mini 2, a new mini-console set to release in Japan on October 27.
The Mega Drive Mini 2 is the follow-up to the console known as the Genesis Mini stateside, a machine with a vast collection of 42 games. The original launched in the United States and Japan simultaneously, but there are no public plans for a North American launch of the second generation mini-console.
Here are a few names that Genesis fans will recognize among the newly announced games. The second entries in the After Burner and Splatterhouse series are welcome additions to the lineup, as is the 16-bit rendition of OutRun. The mix of Genesis and Sega CD titles also means plenty of variety in this lineup. The complete list of newly revealed games is below:
OutRun
After Burner II
Night Striker
The Ninja Warriors
Starblade
Splatterhouse 2
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
Megapanel
Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R
Columns III: Revenge of the Columns
Star Mobile (Mega Drive debut)
More recognizable names like Sonic CD, Virtua Racing, and Bonanza Bros. are also included with the hardware, as a group of 11 games became public knowledge alongside the system. The complete list of 50 games has not been revealed yet, and that means that Sega CD favorites that haven’t been endlessly rereleased could still show up on the Mega Drive Mini 2. There’s still hope for an American version of the system packed with retro hidden gems. Still, the console is already shaping up as a great collection, even as an import-only proposition.
