David Moyes pushing for West Ham to sign Jesse Lingard

West Ham United manager David Moyes is pushing hard for the club to re-sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer, 90min understands.

The Hammers have been busy in the summer transfer window already, bringing in Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola from Rennes and Paris Saint-Germain respectively, but are keen to land at least another four or five players to ensure they are competitive in both the Premier League and Europa Conference League.

Lingard is about to become a free agent after Manchester United opted against renewing his contract at Old Trafford, and he is a long-term target for West Ham - owing to a hugely successful loan spell during 2020/21 that yielded nine goals in 16 appearances.

Indeed, West Ham attempted to sign Lingard on a permanent basis last summer - though he opted at the time to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place - and 90min revealed in May that the club remained interested in bringing him back to London Stadium.

Sources have now confirmed to 90min that manager David Moyes, who has praised Lingard publicly on a number of occasions, is continuing to push West Ham's hierarchy towards concluding a deal, and is hopeful of a positive outcome.

Were West Ham to complete a deal for Lingard, he would likely become one of the highest paid players at the club, earning in excess of £100,000-per-week.

Newcastle, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid have all shown an interest in Lingard previously, who could command wages in excess of £100,000-per-week, but it's unlikely that the 29-year-old will join any of those clubs at this stage.

In addition to targeting Lingard, West Ham are actively pursuing moves for Keane Lewis-Potter and Armando Broja, while there's also a desire to reinforce in central midfield after the retirement of Mark Noble and end of Alex Kral's unsuccessful loan spell.
