Roadside Attractions has dropped an official trailer for Emily the Criminal, the upcoming crime thriller drama starring Aubrey Plaza. The film is scheduled to hit the theaters on August 12.

The video features a cash-strapped woman whose life can’t move forward due to her student debt for a college degree that she can’t put to good use because of a minor criminal record. To get the money for the loan payment, she turns to illegal activities, where she finds herself getting more involved in dangerous gigs.

“Emily is saddled with student debt and locked out of the job market due to a minor criminal record,” reads the synopsis. “Desperate for income, she takes a shady gig as a ‘dummy shopper,’ buying goods with stolen credit cards supplied by a handsome and charismatic middleman named Youcef. Faced with a series of dead-end job interviews, Emily soon finds herself seduced by the quick cash and illicit thrills of black-market capitalism, and increasingly interested in her mentor Youcef. Together, they hatch a plan to bring their business to the next level in Los Angeles.”
