Disney Developing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Movie
According to Deadline, Walt Disney Pictures is developing another feature based on one of its popular theme park rides.
The classic mine cart attraction called Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be the subject of its next live-action film adaptation, with Hawkeye directing duo Bert & Bertie currently in final negotiations to helm the project.
Designed by Imagineer Tony Baxter and ride design engineer Bill Watkins, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad first opened in Disneyland in 1979 Anaheim. It is a mine train rollercoaster currently located in four locations across the world including Magic Kingdom in Florida, Tokyo Disneyland, and Paris’ Disneyland Park.
The film will be directed by Bert & Bertie (Amber Templemore-Finlayson and Katie Ellwood) from a screenplay co-written by Kieran and Michele Mulroney. It will be produced by LuckyChap Entertainment and Scott Free.
The upcoming Big Thunder Mountain movie will be added to Disney’s growing list of ongoing and upcoming live-action film adaptations of Disney theme parks including: the Haunted Mansion reboot set to debut in 2023; the Tower of Terror film led by Scarlett Johansson; the Jungle Cruise sequel featuring the return of Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt; and the new Pirates of the Caribbean film starring Margot Robbie.
