Neil Gaiman Gives Update on Possibility of The Sandman Season 2

Recently, a cryptic tweet sent out by author Neil Gaiman had fans thinking that a second season of the hit Netflix series The Sandman was coming. However, Gaiman said that isn’t the case of yet.

Taking to Twitter earlier this week, Gaiman sent out a tweet mentioning that it would be “nice” if there were more than just the ten episodes of The Sandman in its first season. A fan asked if this meant that a second season was coming, which Gaiman promptly denied. According to the author, Netflix is waiting on how the series does during its first month on the streaming service before committing to anything further.

While the streamer may not be ready to commit to a second season, it seems highly unlikely the show will end anytime soon. Early reports from various analytics groups, including one from Parrot Analytics (via TheWrap), cites that The Sandman has easily been one of the biggest and best shows for Netflix in its history. Combined with the fact that demand for a second season seems very high, and it’s likely that Gaiman’s wish for more The Sandman will come true.

The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge (Sweetbitter) as Dream, the Lord of the Dreaming, Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) as Lucifer, the ruler of Hell, Vivienne Acheampong (The Witches) as Lucienne, the chief librarian and trusted guardian of Dream’s realm, Boyd Holbrook (Logan) as The Corinthian, an escaped nightmare who wishes to taste all that the world has in store, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Roderick Burgess, a charlatan, blackmailer, and magician, and Asim Chaudhry (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Yesterday) as Abel and Cain, the first victim and the first predator, who are residents and loyal subjects of the Dream Realm.

The live-action series is written by Gaiman (American Gods) and Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy), who is set as showrunner. David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Foundation) is executive producing the drama from Warner Bros. Television.
